Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat...


The home of renowned Gujarati Poet ...Kavi Narmad located in a street in Gopipura called Amliran Sheri...


The house is now maintained by Surat Municipal Corporation as part of Surat's Heritage.


A view of the entrance to the house which once upon a time housed Surat's famous Kavi Narmad, after whom Surat is fondly called "Narmad Nagari" A fitting tribute to a local legend.

Ambaji Road...


For the local Surti... Ambaji Road in Gopipura is a revered street, what with quite a few temples located on the same road. The name is derived from the biggest temple on this road dedicated to Goddess Amba.

Chowpatty Swimming Pool...


Municipal Swimming Pool right next to Chowpaty on Athwa Lines... Many a Surti has learnt to swim and float here... Also a famous landmark with its uniquely designed gate. Also houses the Community Service Centre now.

Tomb of Khudawand Khan..


On the same Chakla Bazaar road leading onto Ved Road, one comes across this magnificient mausoleum where Khudawand Khan, Governor of Surat in 1546 lies buried.



Interesting facts about a much honoured Governor of Surat in 1546.

Yahoo Surat!!


What was once an area called "Chakla Bazaar" (The only official Redlight Area in Surat) is no more home to the oldest proffession on earth... In fact, it now houses myriad fashion garment stores... and this one took the cake.. Yahoo!!!

Goat Market...


Come Friday, and the lane behind Old Civil Hospital in Chowk area turns into a veritable "Goat Market" where people from the vicinity and indulge in Goat Trading (Sounds a mini version of the much maligned HorseTrading!!). Its a worthy sight seeing men holding onto a few Goats and bargaining with a worthy buyer
