Makkai Pool name drived from the name Makkah, In oldan days Muslims people used to go to Makkah right from Surat hence also called Bab-ul-Makkah i.e.gate-way-to Makkah. The Surat Muncipal Corporation was called Mugal-saraee where haj pilgrims used to stay before departing for Hajj pilgrimage, It was built by Mugal emperor Jahangir.
from Mughal saree now it has become Mugli-sara.
