The junction at Kailash Nagar, the White House Residential Complex in the background. The Jains of the area made this interesting traffic circle, with a "Kalash" at the centre. The island is named "Vijay Vallabh Chowk"

Surat Textile Market & Revolving Restaurant..

A familiar sight recognised by Surtis... Surat Textile Market, Auditorium, and practically Asia's first Revolving Restaurant at Tex-Palazzo Hotel. The restaurant has gone in for a makeover, and is now called "Kandeel". It offers a panaromic view of the city.

Mela....

The Annual Janmasthami Mela for 40 days, which started from Parsi Sheri near Bhagal, shifted to Rustompura, then Ring Road, and eventually now being held every year at Vanita Vishram Grounds. Its a very popular affair and the entrance decor has special themes every year... Was passing by the mela and just couldnt resist clicking the lighted entrance!

National Dairy..

Ramzan delicacies...

During Ramzan, post-sunset, the Rander area becomes synonymous with Non-Veg delicacies. It becomes the favourite haunt of the Surti Non-Veg lover.

Its also one colorful affair!!!

The preffered place for Paratha's in Rander is at "Mama's Paratha Center"

Mysore Cafe..

Practically the oldest & most popular South Indian Restaurant, a regular hangout for students of the many colleges nearby

There used to be a Gate here leading into the Wadia Womens College at the end of this street.
We used to hangout in evenings during our college days and sit just where the small palm tree is on the left.

For my friend Manish, who's now in US, a view as you would have got when we used to stand/sit on scooters here.

Mahatma Gandhi Statue at Chowk..

Famous landmark of Surat - Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Chowk. The statue was unveiled for the city by Dr Rajendra Prasad on 17th October 1950. Right behind the statue is the Customs & Excise Collectorate.

Rang Upavan..

Rang Upavan, which used to be an open air theatre, is now fully covered, and the road from Makkai Pool to Gandhi Baug renamed to Ardeshir Kotwal Marg. (Surat, at the start of the 19th century, was ravaged by dacoits, and there was no security for life and property. A Parsi Officer by the name of Ardeshir Dhanjisha Bahadur, the Kotwal took it upon himself to rid the city of this menace. He succeeded so well, that the British rulers of the time conferred a special medal on him in 1830, and the Muncipal Corporation honoured him by naming the road after him)
